Grand Shia Cleric: Human Rights is a Plaything for Politicians

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Iranian top religious figure met with European law professor, criticizing politicians for misusing human rights.

Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi, Iranian jurisprudent and professor at Qom Seminary met with Marco Sassoli Professor and Director of International law at the University of Geneva and criticized the politicians for misusing the human rights for their personal interests.

Senior Iranian cleric said while Iran is under constant legal criticism, nobody questions the Arab countries that have no election, no democracy and no human rights only because it is not to their benefit to do so.

He referred to the constitution and elections held in Iran and said, "Iran's constitution is quite humanitarian but it is not approved by those who do not find it to their benefit."

Top cleric expressed hope for more similar meetings with Western thinkers so that they directly know about the idea of Islamic figures and not via a medium.

He referred to the dishonest pictures given from Iran and said, "Some Western figures that travelled to Iran were surprised to find two Iran, one reflected by the western media and the real one."

"We want to live in peace with the people all around the world." said the cleric and stressed, "We are not battle those who do not battle us and this is a teaching of Qur'an."

He referred to Hajj as gathering that Muslims get to know about each others' problems and said, "If each group only thinks of itself then the world would collapse therefore everybody should be concerned about the issues of everybody."

He also said, "Our religious guidelines teach us to equally value our interests and those of the others" and added, "Once this teaching prevails among the people, security and peace conquers the world."

Still in another part of his remarks, Ayatollah Makarem referred to the efforts to spread sedition in the Muslim community and said, "For thousands of years, Shia lived in peace with their Sunni brothers and now many people are killed in daily attacks."

He referred to disintegration and debilitation as two inescapable outcomes of civil war and said, "Any of these outcomes is satisfactory for those who fuel Muslim sedition hence disagreement, sedition and civil war is on top of the agenda in these countries."

According to the cleric as far as the media is dominated by some biased countries, neither human rights is reformed nor is democracy created.

He said, "We will try for promotion of human rights to the last drop of our blood and in our idea he who does not try for that is a dead."
